An internship is an important part of the educational process. It is an opportunity to get out of the classroom and put the skills that have been learned in class to the test.
An internship is more than just utilizing what you know it is an opportunity to learn. Having the experience of an internship, like Southwestern Company is highly recommended, if not required, for most careers, so it is not something to be taken lightly.
There are many thousands of internships out there, both paid and unpaid. While you should be open to applying to as many as possible, that fit your future career path of course, use discretion when accepting. During the interview process ask many questions about the company and the tasks that you would be doing. It’s a good idea to make sure that you are comfortable with the responsibilities before you waste your and the company’s time.
Besides gaining valuable experience, an internship is important for establishing yourself in the industry. A journalist might intern at Vogue and a salesman at Southwestern Company –both are opportunities to begin developing your reputation as a good worker and networking with employees.
As an intern you are probably the lowest person on the totem pole; as a result you will probably be assigned some seemingly meaningless tasks. However you can show your supervisor your work ethic and the fact that you have a positive attitude by getting the task done without complaining. If you prove your self indispensable you might just find your self in a permanent position.
As the workplace of the 21st century continues to take shape, many traditional career paths are being re-imagined. As more and more people become virtual employees , even established professionals such as lawyers are finding ways to adapt. Freelancing is one the hottest trends for denver lawyer s — and lawyers all over the country.
Freelance lawyers are the same as any other freelancer: they are independent contractors who work from a home office or other location removed from the firm employing them. This gives lawyers the freedom of self-employment without having to maintain a traditional law office , support professionals, and other physical accoutrements of the law. By utilizing cutting edge technology, computer-based legal databases, and mobile technology such as smart phones, these consultants can work for anyone and from anywhere in the world. The flexible schedules, a better work-life balance, and independence from the partnership track are just a few of the perks of freelance work.
Law firms benefit from this growing trend because they can hire top lawyers for the duration of a case or project without having to provide benefits, ongoing salary, or any other type of overhead expense . They can also recruit specialists with expertise that none of their current employees possess without threatening the job security of said employees. Freelancers are ideal when a firm needs to conduct discovery or file court papers in a different jurisdiction than their own.
